With the developed ion-selective desalination technique, the hardness of tap or cool water can be drastically reduced by 80 - 90% in a single step. Calcium and Magnesium ions are removed in seconds without becoming corrosive. The water yield is also> 98%. Electricity alone is sufficient.
This technique has many advantages over existing ion exchangers (complete softening, regeneration with excess salt) and adding polymers (anti-scalents) to the water.
